Indiana is the first state to ban cryptocurrency ATMs/kiosks, per a bill signed by Governor Mike Braun called House Bill 1116.
Authored by Rep. Wendy McNamara, and sponsored by multiple senators, the bill, "prohibits the operation of virtual currency kiosks in Indiana." If an operator violates this law, they will have to pay penalties for "deceptive consumer sales."
In addition, the bill gives the attorney general the ability to enforce the ban both on the operator and the "owner of the premises on which the virtual currency kiosk is located if the owner knowingly or intentionally permitted the violation."
Indiana chose to ban crypto kiosks due to a rise in scammers utilizing the machines. The FBI reported $333 million in losses in 2025 alone from reported crypto ATM scams.
